Race & the Real American Theater Crisis
In June of 2020 We See You White American Theater (WSYWAT) published an open letter to the American Theater as a field-wide call out. Speaking to the suffering and injustices that are implicit in the current producing model and culture, WSYWAT demanded change at all levels including cultural competency, working conditions and hiring practices, and transparency and accountability.
Four years on, and has much changed? The financial impacts of COVID have certainly recentered the narrative of the crisis in American Theater on itself, and has it left behind the lessons learned in 2020?
Join the conversation with four of the countries most influential executive leaders in theater; Kelvin Dinkins, Jr.,Executive Director of American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University; Shannon A. Jones, Executive Director of TheatreSquared, Fayetteville, AR; and Meredith Suttles, Creative Consultant and Arts Strategist.
We are asking the big questions, the real questions, and the questions that are shaping the future of the field and the artform.
